Hunger & Homelessness Meetings
Time and Location TBD by YOU
Contact: Sydney.Harris@oberlin.edu or Ilyssa.Meyer@oberlin.edu
We live in the wealthiest,
most powerful country in the world. We need to take ownership over the power we
have as Americans and work to decrease the vast
discrepancies in wealth and resource distribution in our country, and the world
at large. In order to start building public awareness and creating political
pressure, we will work with local and international organizations, which have
already committed to fighting against poverty and socioeconomic injustice. We
will organize both education and service events, and continue to tout the idea
of policy change as a necessary solution.
Climate Change Meetings
Time and Location TBD by YOU
Contact: Phoebe.Flaherty@oberlin.edu or Nora.Graubard@oberlin.edu
Big Coal and Big Oil companies (like American Electric Power, one of the nation’s biggest coal power suppliers) have been spending millions of dollars on lobbyists in DC to convince our leaders to water-down, or better yet, destroy any attempt at national climate change legislation that would effectively cut our carbon emissions. We cannot wait for Congress or the UN to take action on global warming. As students, we have to act now. We need to transform how America produces and uses energy. And we are starting right here at Oberlin.
21st Century Public Transportation Meetings
Time and Location TBD by YOU
Contact: Eliana.Golding@oberlin.edu or Alexis.Burdick-Will@oberlin.edu
We need a 21st century transportation system - one that prioritizes public transit projects and high speed rail. We know that public transportation reduces oil consumption, traffic congestion, and global warming pollution. This spring, Congress will start to consider how we’ll spend transportation dollars for the next six years, which means we will have a golden opportunity to convince them to invest in public transportation.
