The meals packaged in Oberlin are slated for shipment to Haiti, where they will be distributed to those in need through Haitian schools, says senior Adah Hetko, one of the event’s organizers.
The Ohio Public Interest Research Group held a week-long food drive at the Oberlin College library with proceeds going to Oberlin Community Services.
Students are being encouraged to serve as “text out the vote” captains and send on-the-spot messages urging friends to vote, according to Sean Para, campaign co-coordinator for Ohio PIRG’s nonpartisan New Voters Project and a freshman at Oberlin College.
Given the history of shady dealings between banks and colleges, Congress needs to take a hard look at the increasingly common practice of schools contracting with banks to disburse financial aiddollars to students.
